A new look for the crime saga

Yakuza 4 Remastered gives an overhaul to the original Yakuza 4. The basic gameplay and story remain the same, but new-look graphics ensure that the game's inner-city setting looks better than ever. The story plays out in 1080p and 60 fps.

The game is an addition to the long-running Yakuza franchise, which also includes the remake Yakuza Kiwami and the prequel Yakuza 0. The saga takes place in the criminal underworld of Tokyo and tells an immersive story of crime and vengeance.

A tense story of crime

Yakuza 4 Remastered continues the plot of the previous instalments in the series, featuring many recurring characters along the way. The game also introduces three new protagonists who get embroiled in a web of intrigue following a shooting incident and the disappearance of a certain woman. The player must follow the clues into Tokyo's seedy underbelly.

Four playable characters

Throughout the game, the player will switch between different characters, namely series regular Kiryu Kazuma and the three new heroes. Each protagonist has their own fighting style to use against criminal foes. In addition, each character has a plot thread divided into substories. You'll need to play each hero's role to the end to see the whole story.

A game for adults only

As with the rest of the series, Yakuza 4 Remastered is not appropriate for younger players. The story deals in an unflinching manner with both violence and sex: Tokyo's red light district is a major setting.

A new look for a popular game

While some who already own Yakuza 4 may prefer to skip this remaster, those new to the title will find an ideal jumping-on point. The only issue is the removal of certain flashbacks from the original Yakuza 4, assuming the player's familiarity with Yakuza 1-3.

PROS

  • Gives Yakuza 4 a graphical overhaul
  • Four playable characters
